Our Banner
“KEEP MARCHING FORWARD.”
Spirit-filled Evangelisers are exhorted by Pope Francis to keep marching forward. “Do not let your arms drop”, he says in Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel). The document is the “gift of Pope Francis to us all. It is full of encouragement and hope and gives a vision of the kind of church the Holy Father wants – a serving, humble, joyful church – one within the reach of all baptised Catholics. He challenges us to rid ourselves of pessimism, fatalism and every attitude and barrier that tends to thwart the Gospel of love reaching every corner of the earth and beyond.
Céilí Community does its very best to take up that call in Ireland. The inspiration that came from The Joy of the Gospel led us to design our Céilí banner (see left) in 2014, just a year after the Pope’s Exhortation was promulgated. We carry it to every parish we visit on mission and display it in the churches and community venues. This is not a demonstration of triumphalism but of service to our brothers and sisters in Christ and an encouraging icon that the burning fire of The Holy Spirit has not yet been quenched completely in this island of Ireland, which had for centuries been known as the “Island of Saints and Scholars”.
It also serves as a beacon of hope to the priests and parishioners who serve together with us on their parish mission. Together, we become ever more conscious and thankful for the fact that “Hope does not disappoint us because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit whom he has given us”. (Romans 5:5)
“The Holy Spirit works as he wills, when he wills and where he wills; we entrust ourselves to mission without pretending to see striking results. We know only that our commitment is necessary. Let us learn to rest in the tenderness of the arms of the Father amid our creative and generous commitment. Let us keep marching forward; let us give him everything, allowing him to make our efforts bear fruit in his good time”. (Evangelii Gaudium #279)
